This one time, I opened for Foreigner…

Fun fact: I once won a radio contest and got to open for Foreigner…

It all started last April when a fellow chorus member mentioned the audition opportunity on our bulletin board. I was one of 12 people who said “Why not?” We put together a solid audition video and decided to give it our best shot. None of us expected to win! This goes to show that you have to be in it to win it, and if you don’t ask, the answer is always no.

Although it meant a ton of extra work for all of us, everyone in our group stepped up. And boy, were we a rag tag bunch! We ranged from people in their mid 20s to mid 70s. Came from all over the country and all walks of life. But we were united by the common goal of not totally embarrassing ourselves at the NC Coastal Credit Union Music Park 😂

Performing at such a prestigious venue was a dream come true. There were thousands of people in the audience. I felt like Spongebob singing “Sweet Victory.” And getting to know my fellow chorus members on a deeper level made the experience even more special.

I am still in shock that this happened to me. But I think it speaks to what can happen when you don’t reject yourself on the front end of an amazing opportunity. Sometimes we just have to say yes. Even when it feels impossible, sometimes we just have to try.
