3 Strategies To Help Stay Motivated

Staying motivated when working towards your goals can be hard. But it can be especially hard when the results of your efforts aren’t instant. You have to be super patient. And that means delaying your gratification…

Here are 3 strategies I love that help me stay on track:

💕 Habit Pairing —

This is when you pair something tough to do with something you love. e.g. When I was training for a race, I would let myself buy a $7 oat milk iced latte from downstairs after every morning run. Next thing I knew, I’d be waking up early on a weekday excited to do my run so I could have some cold milk! 😋

🔟 Streaks —

How many consecutive days can you do something without a break? Streaks are what ensure that I do the Wordle and check my TimeHop every single day, without fail. There are apps that facilitate daily and weekly streaks for pretty much any habit. And there are also cool scratch off posters you can buy. Which definitely supports the instant gratification piece.

👍 Support Networking —

As a social person and a people pleaser, I get a lot of dopamine from the encouragement of my friends. For some goals, I have documented my progress on Instagram. It feels good to have an audience of supporters cheering for you along the way. And every time I did a task that supported my goal, I knew I was going to post about it. Imagining the post was enough to help me get started even when I wasn’t feeling 100% up for it.

What other techniques have worked for you to keep yourself accountable to your goals?
